Multi Cavity Injection Molding

Multi cavity molding is an injection molding process that involves the use of more than one mold cavity to produce multiple parts per cycle. Shorter lead times and greater product yields make multi cavity molding a cost-effective method for high volume production runs. Ace Seal is an ISO/TS certified provider of multi-cavity injection molding services for a wide range of rubber & plastic materials. With over 35 years of experience, we are an expert manufacturer of custom molded parts. Our advanced technologies allow us to deliver high-quality rubber & plastic components that can be used in a variety of industry applications.

Advantages of Multi Cavity Molding

This process offers several benefits, including:

  • Higher output
  • Shorter lead times
  • Lower cost per piece
  • Fast production runs
  • Less wasted material

What to Consider for Your Custom Multi Cavity Molding Project

Refer to the follow for the main considerations to keep in mind when deciding if multi cavity molding is appropriate for your project requirements:

  • Desired output (Multi cavity molding is ideal for producing multiple parts per cycle. If you require a low volume production run, you may be better off with single-cavity molding).
  • Timeline (Multi cavity molds creates more parts & faster than other processes, however, the lead time on the cavity design may vary depending on its size and geometry).
  • Material (This process requires an even distribution of material across several cavities, which may influence the type of material you choose for your custom design. View our available options below).
  • Mold design & geometries (This will depend on your specifications. Design modifications like venting, tight tolerances, and molding pressure all influence the final product).
  • Size of mold (Larger sized parts will require more complex cavity geometries).

Material Options for Your Multi Cavity Mold Design

We offer a wide range of rubber & plastic materials for multi cavity molding applications. Depending on cavity size and geometry, some materials may work better than others. Read about just some of our options below.

Nylon Injection Molding

Nylon 6 and nylon 66 provide high tensile strength and elasticity. Resistant to harsh chemicals, these materials are used for applications that require high mechanical strength, such as automotive components and machine parts.

HDPE Injection Molding

High density polyethylene provides a high strength-to-weight density ratio and is resistant to a variety of solvents. It is commonly used for items like plastic bottles, food storage containers, outdoor furniture, and piping.

PVC Injection Molding

Polyvinyl chloride, or PVC, is one of the most widely used synthetic polymers. It’s lightweight, high strength, and low cost make it a popular choice amongst almost any industry application.

Polypropylene Injection Molding

Polypropylene is a thermoplastic polymer that is durable and chemical resistant. It contains insulative properties, making it ideal for applications that generate heat, such as electronic components.

Polycarbonate Injection Molding

Polycarbonate is a strong material that can withstand significant impact. Naturally transparent, this plastic is commonly used to make windows, lighting fixtures, eyeglasses, medical devices, and automotive components.

ABS Injection Molding

Acrylonitrile butadiene styrene, or ABS, has a low melting point and very high tensile strength. This plastic is one of the most commonly used materials for 3D manufacturing and the fabrication of OEM parts.

Polyurethane Injection Molding

Polyurethane provides excellent elasticity and is resistant to chemicals and abrasion. This material can survive high impact and harsh environments, making it useful for automotive and hydraulic applications.

Buna-N (Nitrile) Injection Molding

Buna-N, also known as nitrile, is a synthetic rubber commonly used in the aerospace industry due to its resistance to oil, fuel, and various acids and alkalines. Its hypoallergenic properties also make it a popular choice for medical and dental applications.

Silicone Injection Molding

Silicone rubber is generally non-reactive, stable, and resistant to extreme environments. This material can withstand temperatures as low as -75°F and as high as 450°F, making it ideal for a wide host of applications, including automotive manufacturing, medical devices, food storage, electronics, and more.

Neoprene Injection Molding

Neoprene maintains excellent stability under extreme weather and temperature conditions. This material is frequently used for demanding sealing applications due to its resistance to harsh chemicals, fluids, and gases.

Multi Cavity Injection Molding vs Single Cavity Injection Molding

Different from multi cavity molding, single cavity molding uses one cavity to produce a single part per cycle. While multi cavity molding may seem like the more cost-effective option, it requires more time and money to prepare a multi-cavity mold compared to a single-cavity mold. For this reason, multi cavity molding is best suited to high volume production runs. If you require a low output of parts, you might be better off with single cavity molding.

We are dedicated to helping our customers find the most cost-effective solution for all their project needs. If you are unsure which molding process will work best with your requirements, contact a member of our staff, and we will assist you.
